The end of last year, the daycare Oliver was in started sending him home for not following instructions. At 2 years old we weren’t sure what instructions he was supposed to follow and they couldn’t really tell us. He was then kicked out of that daycare and two more booted him after only a few weeks of attending each. They would simply smile at us and say “Oliver is such a sweet kid and we love him but we think a different daycare would serve him better.”
Ouch.
After a lot of back and forth, googling and unnecessary stress, we were able get an official screening for autism and a positive diagnosis. When the world seems to outcast your child that just wants to play, eat apples and watch The Wiggles, it is a little disheartening.
Through this journey we’ve come to know and appreciate the Autism Alliance of Michigan. They provide families like ours with support and inclusion, and maybe most importantly, show us we are not alone. They would not be able to do what they do without donations. Because of this, Jason, Anthony, Oliver, myself and other family members are going to participate in the 2022 Autism Hero Walk at the Detroit Zoo on September 17th that benefits the Autism Alliance of Michigan.
In further support, RFT Search Group is going to match up to $2,500 in donations to Team Oliver! If you’re interested in donating, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/d7BK3pUR
